Mega prizes to be won in 2018!

Fantastic prizes to be won this year as The Debdencycle 3 Counties Ride takes a rest. I have had a huge response from firms after requesting items for prizes. I have so many items that I’ll be putting together prize bundles, if anyone is old enough to remember The Generation Game with Brucie that will give you an idea. The top item has to be two behind the scenes tickets to The British Touring Car Championship!
All you need to do is have a guess at the total mileage of two cycle tours. Nearest three guesses will receive a prize bundle. As always, all proceeds will be going to The Felix Fund, Royal Engineer charity. Also, as before, no money will be taken in admin’ etc.
Just £5 per guess! Have as many goes as you like. All details on the “Competition” page of this website.

Gift Aid is automatic through JustGiving, if you are entering via Paypal/cheque and are a UK tax payer please include address details to enable The Felix Fund to claim the Gift Aid.

Dec 2017 update

In 2017 Debdencycle raised a record amount, just over £3000, for The Felix Fund. Well done all. As many of you will know, the annual Debdencycle has a raft of volunteers on the day but behind the scenes it is pretty much a one man band (me). Organising the ride takes as awful lot of time (primarily during the school summer holiday) and I fell that I have been neglecting my family some what these last few summers. I also feel the ride needs a break, if for no other reason than to make it a “most do when it’s on” ride. To this end, 2018 will be the first year since 2013 without a Debdencycle.
There will be different events during 2018 that I’ll be staging so make sure you keep an eye on our Facebook page: Debdencycle Lindsell

A huge thank you from myself to all riders and volunteers since 2013, you are the stars of the show!

Mid August 2017

If you’re new to all things “Debdencycle” then hello.
Debdencycle is run by Brian Lindsell and his family with the help of local volunteers. As a warm up “If they can do that,,,” event, Brian & his 17 year old daughter Hannah, recently embarked on a 477 mile, camping and cycling, European tour through the UK, France, Belgium and Holland. They’re not club cyclists, just ordinary folk trying to show how you can surprise yourself at what you can achieve if you have a go. This photograph from the ride shows the amount of kit they had on their bikes! Can you do 35 miles without that kit? Remember, 100% of your entry fee goes to The Felix Fund, that’s the National Bomb Disposal/Royal Engineer charity.

July, Debdencycle; European ride; Prizes

July 20th.
Entries are coming in for this year’s Debdencycle, if you would like to sign up the easiest way is through the British Cycling website. Just search for “Debdencycle” under “Sportives”. Well done if you are taking part or marshaling (there’s still time to step forward) as everybody involved is “Debdencycle”. This is a community ride to show our appreciation to our neighbours, 33/101 Engineer Regiments and by taking part you are part of that Debdencycle community.
If you’re still thinking “I might, I might not,,, I can, I can’t” then please follow my daughter Hannah and I on our European ride sponsored by Bluestripe Media, starting this Saturday, 22nd of July. We’re just ordinary people on ordinary bikes taking on something we’ve not done before, a 450 mile ride through the UK, France, Belgium & Holland. No support car, no maps and very little linguistic skill! The idea being that if we can do that,,,, you’ll have a go at 35 or 50 miles on the 3rd of September?
Can’t come along on the 3rd but fancy a meal out instead? We have four meal out vouchers to be raffled off in mid September. Three course meals for two at The Eight Bells in Saffron Walden and same at The Fighting Cocks at Wendens Ambo, lunch for two at The Bull Langley and a meal for two at Yuva in Debden. Follow the link to make a donation of £5 or more at Deddencycle JustGiving and put “Food” in the comments. We also have a donation form in Debden village shop that will also get you into the raffle.
A further update in a couple of weeks when Hannah and I return from Europe but for now, follow our journey and other Debdencycle news on Facebook: Debdencycle Lindsell

April update, prize give away and sponsor announcement

Things are moving on a pace at Debdencycle as we ramp up our 2017 efforts supporting The Felix Fund (The national bomb disposal charity).

We’ve already taken our first entries for both of the 35 and 50 mile routes of this year’s 3 Counties Ride on Sunday the 3rd of September.

Hannah and I have started our training for our 450 mile European ride in July. What should we call that ride? “If they can do four countries you can do three Counties”. Please message me with any better suggestions, the idea is that it encourages people to come along in September. We have a sponsor for the European ride in the form BLUESTRIPE media, a huge thank you to them.

We also have a fabulous prize give away for everybody, a three course meal for two with a glass of bubbly on arrival at, The Eight Bells in Saffron Walden. The voucher is worth around £60/80 and if you would like to see inside the restaurant there is a short video on our Facebook page “Debdencycle Lindsell”. How do you get your hands on the voucher????? Just donate a minimum of £5 on our JustGiving page and put “Food” in the comments. You’ll go into a prize draw to take place in mid September. Please check our various outlets for updates as more food related prizes may be added to the draw!

You may spot me out and about in training. I have the flags of the four countries that we’ll pass through on our European ride on my bike,,, you can’t miss me.

Have you seen our YouTube cycle ride guides?

Have you ever looked at a map or seen something on TV and thought “I wonder if there are any good rides around there?”.

With that thought in mind I set out in during 2016 with an old friend of mine to put together some videos which answer the following questions:

Is it possible?

What’s the terrain like?

Where can I park?

Where can I eat and drink?

There will be more guides coming in 2017 but here is the selection for now or follow the “With Videos” link:

European tour July 2017

Hannah and I will be taking on a European “I can do that” ride in July to hopefully inspire and encourage riders to have a go at The Debdencycle at the start of  September.

So what’s it all about? We’ve all seen or read about people doing all sorts of personal challenges and thought “I could never do that”. We’re aiming for the opposite response of “I think I could do something like that”. We’ll cycle and camp 450 miles over eight days down to Newhaven, across northern France, along the coasts of Belgium and Holland and then back home from Harwich. We’re fair weather cyclist, neither of us are particularly good at languages and as usual we’ll be carrying all our kit (no support vehicle). Oh and just for fun we’re not taking a map, just written notes! If we can do this you can definitely take on The Debdencycle on the 3rd of September.

The ride will be for The Felix Fund charity, we’re looking for corporate backing so if you can help then  please get in touch (tax deductible). There is a just giving page link below and a “guess the weight of the bike” competition. Wish us luck, we’ll need it. The best way to follow our antics is through our Facebook page: Debdecycle Lindsell.

2016 Debdencycle ride report

A huge thank you to everybody who helped raise £2250 for The 33 Engineer Regiment’s Injured Soldier’s Fund, well done you!
The 2017 ride is on Sunday the 3rd of September 2017 so mark your diaries but what a day we all had for the 2016 ride. A jolly bunch of nearly 150 riders of all ages and abilities took on our picturesque (but surprisingly hilly) 35 or 50 mile routes. I managed to draft in a few more marshals and there was even an ice cream van at the finish!
Once again due to the financial support the ride has from some terrific local firms I was able to fulfil the pledge that all of the ride entry fees went to the fund. The Debdencycle truly is a “100% Event”. Every penny of your entry fees goes through our hands, to the army and on to the guys and girls who really need it.
How many other events can offer such a pledge on top of free parking, insurance cover, free event photographs etc?
We’ll see you again in 2017 and don’t forget to follow our other antics on Facebook and YouTube.

2017 Ride date is Sunday the 3rd of September

2017 will be a big year for Debdencycle. The Debdencycle in September in aid of The Royal Engineers starts and finishes at Carver Barracks and has a highly revised route from 2016. I say ride but there are still 35 or 50 mile distances to choose from. Whichever distance you take on, it’s not a race, it’s a ride out to enjoy the countryside of Essex, Herts & Cambs whilst supporting serving and ex-serving men and women.

How the Debdencycle 3 Counties ride on September the 3rd operates:

Meet up from 8am at Carver Barracks CB102YA using the airfield entrance where ample parking is available on the runway. Toilets, teas and coffees also available at the start/finish. Both of the rides start off at the same time (10:30) winding through beautiful country lanes from Debden. Both routes pass through Newport to Arkesden and then split at Duddenhoe End.The 50 mile route goes out past Elmdon and back via Shaftenhoe End where they meet up again with the 35 mile route shortly before the lunch stop at The Woodman Nuthampstead. The return leg sees all riders staying together through the Hormeads, then splitting again in Furneux Pelham with the 50 mile route swinging a wider southerly arc down to Hazel end and then back up through Rickling. The riders come together again in Wendens Ambo for the return to Carver Barracks.

You can now download specific route maps

We have two Facebook pages. All ride day specific information i.e. Maps, GPX file links etc can be found on our Facebook page Debdencycle Community and we have a more general day to day and comments Facebook page, Debdencycle Lindsell

That’s not all that’s happening in 2017 for the Debdencycle team

In addition Hannah and I will be tackling a European tour over eight days, passing through four countries. As with our Debden to Cornwall adventures we’ll be carrying everything we need and camping along the way, plus we’ll be updating you each day via Facebook. There will be an accompanying YouTube ride guide to sit alongside our previous ride guides and others we plan to film during the year. For now you can see guides for The Lea Valley to the Thames, Northampton to Market Harborough and the epic Cambridge to Ely. You can download the routes for the rides by going to the Sat Nav routes page on this website.
For more ride information see our facebook pages, Debdencycle Lindsell and Debdencycle Community.
